Sophie Lloyd has gained a massive fanbase on TikTok and YouTube thanks to her virtuosic skills on the guitar. But the UK musician’s talents go well beyond generating a devoted social following, as she’s also the touring guitarist for Machine Gun Kelly and a recording artist herself.

While Lloyd has covered dozens of classic songs in her viral social clips and played to hundreds of thousands of fans as MGK’s lead guitarist, she felt the desire to create her own music. In that spirit, the guitarist just released her debut solo album, Imposter Syndrome. The LP features a bevy of high-profile guest vocalists, including Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, Michael Starr from Steel Panther, Brandon Saller of Atreyu, Matt Heafy of Trivium, Trevor McNevan from Thousand Foot Krutch, Tyler Connolly from Theory of a Deadman, and more.

As for the album’s title Lloyd tells us it was inspired by a personal obstacle that she has since overcome. “[Imposter syndrome] is something I really struggled with, I think, because my career started kind of unconventionally on the Internet, on YouTube,” she says. “I kind of went from not wanting to play live, not wanting to really do anything that wasn’t behind a screen… to now playing stadiums and some amazing venues. And I think that that journey that I’ve been on throughout this album is just so kind of fitting.”

In this episode of the Beyond the Boys Club podcast, Lloyd discusses what it was like crafting her first solo album and why she chose these particular vocalists to appear on the record. She also talks about what it’s like being on tour with Machine Gun Kelly, her experience as a woman in the rock scene, and the funny way she got interested in guitar in the first place (you won’t believe it!).
