Slipknot have announced that they’ve parted ways with drummer Jay Weinberg, calling it a “creative decision.”

On Sunday (November 5th), the band posted the following statement to its social pages:

“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”

Weinberg had been a member of Slipknot for nearly a decade, joining the band in 2014 following the departure of founding drummer Joey Jordison. He played on three of the band’s studio albums: .5: The Gray Chapter (2014), We Are Not Your Kind (2019), and The End, So Far (2022).

The son of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg grew up a Slipknot fan, as evidenced by photos of Max taking him to meet the masked band when he was just a kid.

Slipknot have undergone a number of lineup changes in recent years, including the ouster of classic members Craig Jones and Chris Fehn in 2023 and 2019, respectively. Sadly, Jordison passed away in July 2021 at the age of 46.

At this time, Slipknot have not named a replacement for Jay Weinberg. The band’s only scheduled concert as of now is an appearance alongside System of a Down and dozens more acts at the second annual Sick New World festival, set to take place April 27th, 2024, in Las Vegas. The fest is sold out, but tickets are available via StubHub.
