Some folks weren’t as thankful as they should’ve been for Dolly Parton’s halftime show during the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving game last week. But her younger sister Stella Parton came to her defense in a scathing tweet Sunday (November 26th), calling out those who weren’t pleased with our recent cover star rocking a cheerleader costume.

“I personally thought my big sister Dolly was cute as hell in her Dallas Cowboys cheerleading costume at the half time show on Thanksgiving,” Stella wrote. “To those of you being so critical of a 77 year old kicking up her heels, I say fuck yourself. Shame on you not her.”

In the middle of the Cowboys’ turkey game showdown against the Washington Commanders, Dolly sang classics like “Jolene” and “9 to 5” as well as covers of Queen’s “We Are the Champions” and “We Will Rock You” in support of her new album Rockstar. During it all, she wore a low-cut crop top, hot pants, and a fringe jacket, along with some bedazzled pantyhose.

We concur with Stella’s declaration that her big sister looked “cute as hell.” See the tweet below.

Revisit our recent cover story with Dolly, conducted by Paramore’s Hayley Williams of Paramore, as well as Williams’ own letter on the lessons she learned from the country legend. Her rock-themed album Rockstar earned her plenty words of praise from her collaborators on the record, including Debbie Harry, Simon Le Bon, and Pat Benatar.

Dolly was also a recent guest on Kyle Meredith With.., where she discussed Rockstar, classic costumes, and trying to reunite Led Zeppelin.
