Max has unveiled the official trailer for True Detective: Night Country, the upcoming fourth installment of the anthology crime series. Watch it below.

Jodie Foster stars as Liz Danvers, a detective in Alaska who’s investigating a gruesome case involving frozen bodies alongside her partner Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) — with whom she also shares a contentious past. The trailer also brings back the spiral motif that factored heavily throughout Season 1.

Here’s the official logline: “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

Rounding out the cast are Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and John Hawkes. Guest stars include Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, June Thiele, Diane Benson, and Joel D. Montgrand.

Issa López helmed all six episodes of Night Country as showrunner, writer, and director after True Detective creator and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto exited the series following Season 3. López and Foster also executive produced the series, with Pizzolatto, Mari Jo Winkler, and original True Detective stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson returning as executive producers.

True Detective: Night Country premieres January 14th on Max. Season 3 of True Detective starred Mahershala Ali as Arkansas detective Wayne Hays and aired back in 2019.
