Prime Video has shared the first trailer for its Donald Glover-led TV series reboot of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Watch it below.
In the opening of the clip, Glover makes awkward small talk with Maya Erskine, who plays his partner as both a spy and wife in an arranged marriage. From there, we get a glimpse at how the fake couple must navigate their relationship, which appears to become more real as they take on missions.
“In this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan,” reads the official logline. “The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”
Glover co-created Mr. & Mrs. Smith with showrunner Francesca Sloane. The cast also features Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Sarah Paulson, Ron Perlman, Paul Dano, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, and Parker Posey.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a reboot of the 2005 movie of the same name starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Phoebe Waller-Bridge originally signed on to play Erskine’s role, but left in 2021 due to creative differences.
