After the success of HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation, the beloved post-apocalyptic video game Fallout is next to get the TV treatment. The new series, simply titled Fallout, will premiere on Prime Video in April, 2024 and will feature an original story set in the now-extensive Fallout universe.

The role playing series, which has seen five main iterations and several in-universe spinoff games from 1997 to today, follows an alternate universe in which catastrophic nuclear war devastates the United States and beyond; survivors dwell in fallout shelters called “Vaults” and search for resources above ground in a vast expanse called “The Wasteland.”

The new series will be set in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles and is executive produced by Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Here’s everything we know about the adaptation so far.

What Is the Fallout TV Show About?

The TV series is confirmed to be a new, original story in the Fallout universe, as opposed to an adaptation of one of the series’ pre-existing games. Taking place in Los Angeles 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse, the show will follow protagonist Lucy (Ella Purnell) as she emerges from her underground shelter to navigate the transformed City of Angels, now ravaged by radiation.

While details of the plot are still uncertain, Fallout‘s teaser trailer shows several notable figures and references from the video game series: Radroaches, yao guai, geckos, Mr. Handy automatons, a Dogmeat-resembling German shepherd, Vault Tec symbols, and the iconic Brotherhood of Steel, complete with their Power Armor suits and Vertibirds. Though the show takes place in Los Angeles and much of the game’s lore is referenced in the teaser, there aren’t any references to the New California Republic — so it’s unknown if the in-game government faction will make its way into the show.

“Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have,” reads the show’s official logline. “200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.”

In addition to the show’s December 2nd teaser trailer, Amazon also revealed Fallout‘s first look images on November 28th.

When Does the Fallout TV Show Premiere, and Where?
